A Busy Beetle Named Jazmin

Wednesday, April 13th 2011

For the last two weeks I have been traveling around to various Chicago Neighborhoods, worked with fellow artist in their studios, working endlessly in my own studio while also balancing a day job.

Last Monday I volunteered my time with fellow artist Angela Caggiano at I AM Logan Square, helping out with the upcoming Milwaukee Arts Festival.

I've distributed a few of my paintings to local coffee shops like Nothin' Less Coffee House and Global Coffee & Cargo.

For the last Three months I've been working on a documentary called Taking Park City, which will premier April 21 on WTTW (channel 11) at 9pm. I'm credited as the concept artist to the film. Please look out for my poster around the south loop!

Just yesterday I was at Graphic Artists Guild Chicago meeting at Thai Spoon. I came away from the meeting really inspired from listening to other Chicago Artist stories, and viewing their amazing portfolios.

I'm more determined to push myself harder, to be a better artist. I have my own homework to do, starting with metadata encrypt everything and other various things.

One of my favorite pieces of advice I received from the Guild meeting was from an Artist Manager James Clarke 'everything you design should design like a billboard.'

Taking Park City

For the past few months I have been working on a film called “Taking Park City,” as the concept artist. It is my pleasure to announce the premiere presentation of “Taking Park City” will be at 9 p.m, Thursday April 21 on Chicago’s WTTW-TV (PBS). Please let your friends, family, co-workers know about this. Thank you all for your support. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

Jazmin Giron News for October 2009

I have been a busy bee working on art. I am happy to say that I will be participating in the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Mural Competition held in January 2010. I will be competing against 19 mural painters in a contest that if I win I get to go to San Francisco.

Next thing I would like to say is wish me luck with Columbia College Manifest Poster competition because I hope to win it. I will find out November 1st if I make it to the second round.

Coming soon I will post new artwork this time it would be something that no one has seen me do before. I am trying my hand at airbrushing. I am working on a series of airbrush landscapes. I will also be posting some acrylic paintings that I did for fun. I should have these things up in the upcoming weeks.

Leyden Art Students Earn Way To Triton Competition
Many talented East and West Leyden Dist. 212 high school students are to be congratulated for making a strong showing at the 2005 Triton College Art Competition held at the Triton Art Gallery in January, having created 81 of the 200 works selected to be on exhibit for the show. Students from nine high schools had submitted 575 pieces of artwork for consideration in the competition.

The show featured seven categories of artwork. Leyden students took "Best of" category awards in drawing, painting, ceramics, photography and design/computer graphics. Jazmin Giron, a senior at West Lyden, received the Best of Show award for her self-portrait painting. Read more about this article.
